Do Google Reviews Matter?

Having the best web design reviews in Hull certainly matters to us, and they should matter to you too if you care about the reputation of your own business, and I suspect that we are all concerned about that!

They matter also if you remember that around 90% of surfers say they take notice of online reviews before purchasing goods or services online.

You only have to look at your own behavior on websites like Amazon and Tripadvisor to realise that this is true. So if it’s true for the ‘big boys’ why wouldn’t it be an important factor to consider in your business?

Whilst there are many different review sites out there, I believe that Google is pretty unique in two respects

Firstly I believe that Google makes it hard to place fake reviews on your GMB page (Google My Business) This adds to the reliability of the review system – and improves the experience for surfers and potential clients. The fact that you cannot pay to be included or add your own reviews is a good way of making sure that reviews are completely genuine

Let’s face it, many of the reviews sites out there are no more than paid directories for tradesmen who can add their own ‘five-star’ ratings and weigh the system in their favor. Google makes it hard to do this, and by doing so it retains it integrity as a trusted source.

Secondly, it is so hard to get reviews – I always request a review from clients following a job (by the way, it is against Google’s terms of service to offer any inducement to obtain a review). I simply send them a standard email and let them decide – but so many simply fail to act, possibly because they have to log into their own Gmail accounts to place a review.

On the basis that it is pretty hard to get reviews, then based on scarcity I would say that Google reviews carry much more weight than any other type of testimonials – other than first-hand word of mouth – which is, of course, the finest recommendation of all!
