Almost every week we get business owners calling with their tales of woe, often asking us to sort out some of the problems left behind by web design firms who outsource all their work to the cheapest bidder.
We’ve all heard about them, haven’t we?
Those horror stories about fly by night online firms that promise the earth and deliver next to nothing, whose idea of good service is sending out your neatly typed invoices on time, and who can never be relied on to answer the phone or reply to your emails.
Another problem we’ve recently encountered is the case of the local business owner who is virtually held to ransom by a firm who insists on charging a ton of money for tiny updates, and won’t release the clients website without payment of a hefty fee!
Added to that there are the plethora of so-called FREE website builders that lock you into 24 month contracts which end up with you paying up to double what you should have paid in the first place, and then have the cheek to take around 6 weeks to release your domain name when you finally get out of their clutches, and you really do have to start asking Who Can I Trust?
Here are a couple of suggestions:
Trust previous clients of the firm you want to work with – give them a call or send them an email, most people won’t mind this – any reasonable firm should be happy give you some details of former clients
Trust Google Reviews – not the paid-for directory reviews like Trustpilot or Feefo, etc, but genuine Google reviews, they are very hard to fake and clients who take the time to write them actually leave genuine contact details – making them a trustworthy resource.
