How can I Improve content for Google?

Remember the story of Goldilocks, The Porridge and The Three Bears?
Do you recall how Goldilocks tried each of the 3 bowls of porridge before finding one that was ‘Just Right’? Well, that same principle can be applied to web pages too!

There’s actually no secret to getting good visibility on Google – you just have to remember 3 little words on your website

Content – Content – Content

The first place to look when you begin updating the SEO on your website is the current content and almost without fail there will be some DADDY BEAR pages with way too much information – thousands of words and long bulky paragraphs, no surfer will bother working through them  – And then there will be MOTHER BEAR  web pages with almost no relevant content on them, so Google tends to ignore them – they’ll be just sitting there not doing anything forever and a day.

To continue our porridge analogy – In an ideal world, we should be looking to create BABY BEAR pages which are ‘just right’, for both readability and keyword content.

Google exists to serve the surfer. The surfer demands content that matches their search enquiry, is up to date and can be viewed easily on any device – if you consistently meet those needs, you’ll find that Google visibility will follow naturally.

In my experience keeping up with your content, and trying to match that content to the phrases that your visitors might be looking for in Google, poses the biggest challenge for most website owners.

It’s important to try and ‘get into the shoes of your readers’ whilst you might call your product one thing, how do they describe it in everyday terms? This knowledge is crucial to your success – why would you write about ‘Gym Shoes’ if your readers call them ‘Trainers’?

  • Website Content is important when it contains words or phrases that your visitors use to find pages like yours – it provides Google with a match.
  • Website Content is important because it speaks to your visitor in language that he or she understands.
  • Website Content is important because it sets the tone for your brand or business.
